MLK ConvenienceCenter Closed Until 2:00 pm - September 13, 2025

Shortly before 12:30 PM on Saturday, September 13th a citizen was driving his pickup truck into the Dalton-Whitfield Solid Waste Management Authority’s convenience center at 1920 MLK Boulevard when he apparently experienced a medical emergency and when into cardiac arrest. Still driving, he drove his truck off of the road and into a pond on the site. He passed away at the scene before medical help could arrive. The convenience center on MLK Boulevard was closed to allow first responders to attend to the scene and for a tow truck to remove the vehicle from the creek. The center is expected to re-open at approximately 2:00 pm, but operating hours on Saturday end at 3:00 pm. At this time, the name of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family. We send our deepest condolences to those who knew him and loved him.
