Items collected six days a week for recycling include:

  • mixed paper
  • newspaper and magazines
  • plastic bottles and jugs
  • cardboard
  • aluminum cans
  • scrap metal
  • scrap tires
  • bi-Metal cans
  • glass bottles and jars
  • waste oil (used motor oil)
  • lead acid batteries (vehicle batteries)
  • rechargeable batteries
  • electronics (**only at Old Dixie Hwy. location)
  • yard trimmings (**not available at M.L.King Blvd. location.)

Yard wastes brought to the convenience centers is processed into a chunky mulch with a tub grinder.  The mulch material is available for residents free of charge.  (A loading fee may apply depending on quantity.)

For more information about recycling with us, visit the Recycling 101 page.

To keep the convenience center patrons informed of the recycling program, a quarterly scoreboard is posted and updated at all four sites showing the amount of material recycled versus the amount disposed for the quarter and the percentage by weight of material recycled.  Currently the overall percentage for recycling is 5%.

The Authority staff continually audits its vendors to ensure materials are properly managed when collected from the convenience centers.  It's estimated that residents visited the convenience centers over 426,000 times in 2008.
